The talented Anaïs Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics, and book for the show Hadestown. It recounts a reimagined version of the time-honored myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice, a youthful woman facing starvation, sets out to work in a grim industrial portrayal of the Greek underworld to escape poverty and chill temperatures. Her lover Orpheus, a penniless singer-songwriter, undertakes on a quest to save her.
During its first Broadway presentation, the musical earned 14 Tony Awards nods, achieving eight prestigious awards. It achieved itself the sought-after title of ‘Best Musical,’ much to the enthusiastic fans. The presentation premiered on Broadway on April 17, 2019, receiving high praise.
