Funny Girl is based on exploits in the life of Ziegfeld Follies star, Fanny Brice shortly before, during and after World War I and tells her rise from being an awkward, unattractive, stage-struck young girl to national stardom. Her story begins with her young days in New York's Lower East Side, where the young starlet in the making goofs her way through burlesque and vaudeville, wishing to make it big despite being put down by her friends and family, who tell her she isn't star material enough for the stage. Additionally, it covers the story of her love for and subsequent failed marriage to Nick Arnstein, an elegant, sophisticated man whose allure Fanny finds seductive. The theater production is full of the outstanding music that anyone would come to expect from a show of this level and included are several show-stopping numbers such as "People" and "Don't Let It Rain on My Parade".
