The Swedish producer already had intentions of creating a musical around all his songs over his career, giving rise to the musical being created and subsequently debuting in 2019. Martin gave complete freedom in the renditions of his songs to the play, saying that he “wanted every song to feel like it was written for the musical, and to let fans feel that even if you have never heard any of my songs, you could completely follow everything.” '& Juliet' ended up including hits from global performers namely Celine Dion, Demi Lovato, P!nk, and The Backstreet Boys, among others. Thanks to its modern score, the play enabled a new way to appeal to a different audience to West End.
