Play summary

Clue – A New Comedy is based on the classic Hasbro board game Clue. Not to be confused with Clue the Musical, this is based on the 1985 Paramount Pictures movie. It’s a new take on a beloved favorite which combines theatre with the characters and murder-mystery theme of the board game.

Written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price, and based on the original screenplay by Jonathan Lynn, it features a snappy, farcical plot that will engage audiences from start to finish. It also features original music by Michael Holland.

What is the story of this play?

If you’re familiar with Clue (or Cluedo in other parts of the world), then you’ll find many familiar faces in this play. The cast play the roles of the classic characters, including Colonel Mustard, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum and Miss Scarlet. They find themselves in an intriguing mystery plot where audiences are encouraged to work out who the murderer is along with the characters.

The story takes place in Boddy Manor, where the enigmatic Mr. Boddy invites six guests. Each of the characters has deep secrets and possible motives for murder. After Mr. Boddy is murdered, the audience is guided by a detective as clues are pieced together to determine the culprit.

It’s worth noting that the show has been created to produce different endings depending on the night – similar to the board game. It means that each show has multiple solutions to the central mystery, keeping audiences engaged.
