Life of Pi at Ahmanson Theatre

Most people are familiar with the story of Life of Pi through the film. Director Ang Lee and his team did an amazing job crafting the movie with the source material, which comes from the novel by Yann Martel. Martel actually helped with the playwright for this show along with seasoned play writer Lolita Chakrabarti. This is important because it means this version grasps the essence of the story, even in this different format. There are two ideas that are in play throughout the story. It's mainly about Pi's quest for actual survival, while trying not to lose his mind in the process. This allows the story to shift from his conscious to his subconscious mind. The storyline is so complex, and yet it doesn't scare people away because until you're shoulders deep into the plot, you realize how complicated it is.

This musical hasn't been around for too long; the first-ever official performance was in 2019. Since then, it has filled auditoriums throughout the UK, while also having an extensive stay in London's West End before taking up residence in Broadway. It's picked up applause from fans and esteemed theater award shows along the way. Life of Pi is headed to the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California as a way to get more people to experience the story.
