Neverland is right next door as Peter Pan Goes Wrong flies to the Ahmanson Theatre in California for a month-long showing that opens on August 8th!

Similar to the original Mischief smash hit “The Play That Goes Wrong,” the production attempts to stage the beloved story of Peter and Wendy, which is purposely and repeatedly ruined by the amateurism and personal rivalries of the cast and crew. In this version, Peter Pan crashes into walls, Tinkerbell is electrocuted, and the dog Nana finds herself stuck in random objects during the peaks of absurdities and disasters, ultimately turning J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan into a wild farce.

Narrated by Francis Beaumont, the first act opens with comedic flair as he enters the stage on a slow-moving throne amidst confetti, briefly introducing the story. Throughout the plot, the humor escalates with John Darling using headphones for backstage lines, generating laughter with each deadpan line reading accompanied by radio crackles. As the second act unfolds, offstage dynamics affect on-stage performances, while audience involvement increases through ad-libbed scenes and callouts. Despite some wavering, the play consistently maintains a well-crafted combination of physical comedy, technical challenges, and interactive engagement.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong first premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in London in December 2013. After a successful U.K. Tour, the production transferred to the West End’s Apollo Theatre for a Christmas season run, then returned to the West End the following year. It was nominated for Best New Comedy at the Olivier Awards and has amazed critics and audiences across the U.K. The production was also adapted into a one-hour television special broadcast on BBC One.

Mischief Theatre Ltd. is the group behind the production, consisting of LAMDA acting alumni who initially performed improvised comedy during their early years. Today, the group maintains a workshop schedule in addition to touring the UK and other countries with original written and improvised performances. The team includes Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer, serving as its directors.

Other notable guest stars include Bradley Whitford from August 9th to 27th and Daniel Dae Kim from August 30th to September 10th. All mentioned actors will be reprising the role of Francis, the narrator in the play.

Producing Director Douglas Baker shares how he is elated to welcome Neil Patrick Harris back to Center Theatre Group, who he highlights has been a remarkable friend to the theater. “This will mark his third engagement with Center Theatre Group, having appeared in the first Los Angeles engagement of ‘Rent’ at the Ahmanson Theatre and later in the world premiere of Jon Robin Baitz’s ‘The Paris Letter’ at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. We are thrilled to be able to announce an extension week with Neil returning to his most recent Broadway triumph.”

Leading the performance behind the scenes are the genius writers of the Mischief Theatre, including Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields. The rest of the Creatives Team can be found here below:
